The first week of August we loaded up the minivan and headed up north to Colorado. I was so nervous about going on a 12 hour car ride with the kids. They did so well on the whole trip. Andrew got sick with a fever on the way to Amarillo, by the time we stopped for dinner he was super hot and not feeling well at all. We got him a dr. pepper to drink at the restaurant and he didn’t even drink it! That is how I knew he was sick! Poor guy we loaded him up with tylenol and kept on traveling. We spend the night in Amarillo and then left the next morning for Colorado Springs.
We stopped at Mount Capulon, a volcano on our way up. We decided at the last minute to walk around and explore. What we thought would be 10 minutes to stretch our legs and take a few pictures turned into us hiking up the whole thing for about 45 minutes. I didn’t bring any water bottles, the backpack carrier for Will, or food it was around lunch time! All I had was my camera and phone. The kids did great and it was a lot of fun, we were so happy we stopped and we were nice and hungry when we were done.

We spent 4 days with the Perry’s in Colorado Springs. We had a lot of fun hanging out and sight seeing.

We were ready to go to the car and Will was refusing to walk or ride in the carrier. He threw a huge fit and there were lots of people around. Then I started filming it on my phone. I guess with #3 I don’t get as embarrassed by little things, instead I recorded it! Overall Will did really well for a 2 year old, the days were just long sometimes.

One of the days in Colorado Springs we went to Mantou Springs. The kids had so much fun riding all of the different rides. Andrew bought a million dollar bill at a gift shop. He was super excited.
We went to the Manitou Cliff Dwellings another day. It was neat to see and walk into homes that native Americans used to live in.
This was also where the kids spent their souvenir money on toy guns. I thought it was funny that we drove all the way from Texas to Colorado to buy a toy gun as the souvenir! The guns provided lots of entertainment in the car while driving and at our cabin in the mountains.

The next few days we drove up the mountains more and rented a cabin to get away from it all. It was so quite and relaxing. There was no cell phone service at all. That part felt kinda weird that we would have to walk/ drive to another street to make a call if we needed. Strange how dependent we are on our phones now days.
This was the parking spot for the van! There is a 4 foot drop off and we didn’t want to be sticking out to much because there were no street lights on the street when cars drive by. It took us about 20 minutes to find the cabin because the cabin was so tucked away and we had no gps service!

Andrew brought his pocket knife that Boompa got him and he learned/ mastered how to widdle.

The days consisted of hiking in the morning, lunch, napping, hiking, dinner and then reading the book Growly outside while looking at the stars. These few days were magical.
Will made sure to keep all the wildlife away :) so we didn’t end up seeing much. We were a little loud while hiking.

The last hike we went on we found a really neat area with large rocks to climb on. The kids did so well walking and exploring.
Hiking out is always so much more fun than the walk back. This is how Bobby ended the last hike of the trip! Bobby is such a wonderful daddy our kids! I am so blessed to have him!

After a few days of fun we loaded up the van and drove back in 1 day and we only stopped 2 times during the whole 12 hour drive home. We stopped once for lunch and once for dinner. I am still shocked that we only stopped twice! For the record the kids didn’t have a dvd player or anything. Just a playlist from my phone of songs they liked and some kid podcasts to listen to! They also had their guns of course and the usual colors and books and such.
Another great vacation in the books.
When we got back to Texas it was time for back to school parties and such. Summer time was coming to a end.
